How to Play Penalty & Free Kick Games
Penalty and free kick games are set-piece soccer experiences. You aim, set power and sometimes curve, and shoot to beat the wall and keeper. No full matches—just focused practice on the most thrilling moments in football. Here is how to get better at them.
Understanding the Basics
In penalty games, you take shots from the spot against a goalkeeper. In free kick games, a wall blocks part of the goal, so you need to curve the ball around it or over it. Controls vary by game: some use a cursor to aim, others a power bar and a curve slider. The goal is always the same—place the ball where the keeper or wall cannot reach it.
Aiming for the Corners
Top corners and low corners are the hardest for keepers to save. In 2D games, aim toward the corners of the goal. In 3D free kick games like Real Freekick 3D, use the camera angle to judge placement. The keeper often commits early in penalty games, so wait until they move, then shoot the opposite way. Do not always aim the same corner; mix it up so the keeper cannot predict you.
Power Control
Most games have a power bar. Keep power in the green or safe zone—too little and the shot is weak, too much and it flies over. Practice the sweet spot for each distance. For free kicks, you often need more power to clear the wall but must keep the ball down. A good rule: aim for 70–80% power for most shots, and adjust for distance.
Using Curve and Spin
In free kick games, curve is essential. You can bend the ball around the wall or over it and down. Learn how much curve you need for each position. Some games let you adjust curve before shooting; others use a timed input. Curling away from the keeper (e.g. left foot, right corner) often works best. Practice from different angles to see how curve and power interact.
Reading the Keeper
In penalty games, the keeper may dive left, right, or stay in the center. Watch their movement before you shoot. If they commit early, shoot the other way. If they stay centered, the corners are still the best option. Some games have a slight delay between your input and the shot—use that to react to the keeper.
